Our Roots

Chef Maritza’s culinary journey began in Buenaventura, Colombia, where at age 6 she started cooking and selling her creations to neighbors and classmates who were drawn by the irresistible aroma and unique seasoning. 

Inspired by her mother’s creativity and guided by her faith, Maritza’s passion for cooking blossomed. In the 1980s, after moving to the US to complete high school and pursue journalism, she continued to impress at school and work gatherings, which ultimately inspired her to establish her own culinary venture.

Mission: Our mission at BATEA is to deliver an extraordinary culinary journey featuring the distinctive flavors of the Colombian Pacific. We elevate quality, offer delightful beverages, and aim to become the top culinary experience in the Bay Area.
